musicanditsblog: Album No.2: Modest Mouse- Blue Cadet-3, Do You Connect?            In the recent years, my music taste has changed significantly. Even though I barely like anything that I liked three years ago, Modest Mouse (among a few others) are one of the bands that I will always love. Their 2001 LP ‘The Moon and Antarctica’ may be one of the greatest albums of all time. Recently (in the past year or so) I have decided to explore Modest Mouse’s early catalog. This 7 minute long, 5 song EP was Modest Mouse’s first official release, put out in 1994. While Modest Mouse’s later material sounds along the lines of indie rock/pop, this EP sounds more like Mineral or Cap’n Jazz. A strong midwestern emo influence is felt in this EP (as well as a Daniel Johnston lo-fi sound). Some of the tracks are simply filler (Woodgrain, 54321…Lisp Off!), while the others are straight up Lo-Fi Emo. The interludes are shameless Daniel Johnston rips. All in all it is a decent EP, but the bands later material is truly much better. 6/10
